5 reasons not to use Wix
Have you already created a website with Wix, but you don't get any hits on it? Or are you considering creating a website with Wix?
5 reasons not to use Wix to create a website in Switzerland
We have often had clients contact us after using Wix or Weebly to create a website and ask us to help them make their site more visible. And therein lies the rub, so to speak. We'll explain 5 reasons not to use Wix in Switzerland.
With Wix, it is very easy to create a good looking website, but also to create a website very poorly performing.
If Wix makes it easy to create a website, why not use it?
1. Wix "makes it easy" to create a website
If Wix makes it easy to create a website, why is that a negative? If you think of creating a website as a "simple" task, you're off to a bad start.
We like what is beautiful, but if we try to build a house, the result would be catastrophic, because we are not architects or engineers. So why should you pretend to be a website developer when your business depends on your website?
The main reason you should not use Wix to create your website is that you are not a professional web designer. There is a detailed process for creating a website.
If it were "easy" to create a website that really worked, we would know about it! And there wouldn't be thousands of articles on SEO, content structures, reputation management and conversion optimisation, for example.
With Wix, it's easy to get started, create a web page and publish it. But you won't get the benefits of a well-developed website built with solid foundations, properly structured and optimised to compete in the cut-throat world of the web.
2. Wix hides the complexities
That's another advantage, we hear you scream! Hiding the complexities in website development is not necessarily a good thing. With Wix, it's easy to design websites like a brochure, when they're not. What you see is not what Google sees. Although Google does take user experience into account, it's mostly about content, mobile friendliness, loading speed, etc.
Google does not reward design, but what is well done.
One of the most basic things Google cares about is how your page titles are structured and what they say about the page. Yet for some Wix sites I've seen, no attention is paid to this, even though Wix says it supports SEO settings.
Google doesn't really care how pretty your button is or how great your images look. In the event that you have been convinced by our 5 reasons not to use WixYou can contact us by clicking on the following button:
3. Wix hosts your website
If your website is running slower than usual, a good hosting company is a good place to start. If a website is based on one of the open source content management systems such as WordPress, there are plenty of hosting companies that want your money to host your website. Some are excellent, some are bad, especially in terms of support. We offer you professional hosting, at the best price and with no strings attached.
In general, I don't like the idea of using a proprietary content management system, whether it's a platform like Wix or a web system developed by an agency. If you want to continue working on the site or change the structure, you will most likely have to start from scratch. To do this, we use WordPress as well as a backup and migration system in case you want to change your hosting or web agency.
Although WordPress is not the only platform available, business owners ask us if it is a decent option or if it was "only" used by bloggers. Internationally recognised companies such as : The Walt Disney Company, The White House or even The Renault Group use WordPress (click on the links to see the test) and we can safely say that their sites are probably bigger than yours.
When you develop your website using Wix, you have nowhere to go. They host your website and you can't go anywhere else, which brings us to the next point which will be the fourth of the 5 reasons not to use Wix.
4. You cannot migrate your Wix data elsewhere
So you're lucky, your website is working well and you want to add features that are not supported by Wix, or you want to do a web redesign. In fact, you have outgrown your website.
If this happens, it is very difficult to transfer your content out of Wix. In case you had a WordPress based website, you could keep all your content and apply another theme, or a custom theme (which is actually a layout). Your website looks completely different, but you don't need to re-enter your content. There is of course some work to do when you change your theme. All developers have their own way of working, different image sizes in different locations, but you can keep your content for migration.
Still not convinced by our 5 reasons not to use Wix ? If you think you can overtake Wix, perhaps a full web development is out of your budget at the moment, but don't forget to take this potential cost into account in the future.
5. Wix is not free and may be more expensive than you think
Wix is a very attractive initial platform, as the basic offer seems to be free. This is a very effective sales technique to attract customers. Here is the last point of our 5 reasons not to use Wix
With the free packages, you have the Wix brand on your site and the icon that appears in the browser bar is a Wix logo. You also can't add Google Analytics tracking until you purchase a premium subscription.
The premium plans start at about 4 $ per month, which is not expensive at all, and can go up to 35 $ per month.
When you start adding features, Wix has an 'app shop' that allows you to choose which apps to use. There are lots of apps to choose from and many of them start with a 'freemium' offer. That is, features provided for a price, so go back to this website presentation and consider what you want in your costs.
What is free will cost you in the long run
For many people, the biggest cost of using Wix is a hidden cost. This is the cost of websites built by users who don't always know what makes a website really work, and therefore aren't found or don't work well.
This lack of functionality will cause you to miss out on many opportunities to convert your visitors into customers.
You will end up paying monthly a flat rate of CHF 12.50 (if you want unlimited bandwidth), as the basic package does not include any functionality. So 150 CHF per year, Not to mention any additional features you may need, or the countless hours spent understanding, testing and trying to make the system work. To put together a website that will have little or no competition in the marketplace.
This will not be the case with a site created by our Web Agency. You pay a creation fee (adapted to your needs) and then theannual accommodation if you take it from us (125.- with SSL certificate + 30-day back-up included). But above all, you are guaranteed a professional work as well as a quality referencing. Do you still have doubts about creating your website with Wix after reading our 5 reasons not to use Wix ?
